Great Racing everyone up in Red Deer. Those were 3 good hard days of racing and you rose to the occassion and went for it up there.

I just want to take a minute to clarify/remind everyone of some notes from our meeting back in the Fall. As young developing athletes, it is important to get out and be active 5 to 6 times per week. Skiing is great, but it is also very good for you as young athletes to do other activities as well: soccer, basket ball, alpine skiing/snowboarding, climbing, swimming, etc. On days we do not have team training, feel free to call your friends and go out for a ski or something together.

With that said, it is important to be sure you are getting the rest you need so your bodies can grow and have an adaptation to training. So if you are exhausted, take a day off. As well, when we get back Sunday night from a long weekend of racing and being on the road, take Monday off. Your body will thank you in the long run. Cross Country and Biathlon are life long sports, and we coaches have your best interest in mind based on the Long Term Athlete Development Model (LTAD). Thousands of hours of research has gone into the development of the LTAD, so we use it do develop the best training for you now so that you can be amazing athletes in the future.

The Alberta Youth Championships race notice has been released. There have been some changes from previous years, so everyone should read the Race Notice: http://www.xcbraggcreek.ca/alberta-youth-cross-country-ski-championships-race-notice/
We have not finalized a lead coach for Canmore Nordic for this event, but there will be a coach there. We recommend that everyone interested in attending (hopefully everyone as this is an awesome event!) register on Zone4 sooner than later.

    Training this week:

    Monday 22nd 5:00 – 6:00 @ CNC
IF you did not race in Red Deer, tonight will be a relaxed distance skate ski at CNC. Parents welcome to come along. If you raced all 3 days, please have a rest.

    Wednesday 24th 5:00 – 6:30 @ CNC
Classic Ski at CNC. Kick wax with Rodi Violet (it is not nearly as warm as the forecast said on Monday). We will focus on Double Pole tonight.

    Saturday 27th 10:00 – 12:00 @ CNC
Classic ski at CNC. It is supposed to cool down to -15C, so Swix Blue Extra will be the best kick wax for Saturday’s ski. This will be a long continuous ski, so it is a must to have a full drink belt to keep you hydrated through out the session. Dress well for the cool temperatures.
