Swedish Meatballs Jan 26th, 2010

By Joel Pacas

There are endless stories of high performance athletes traveling to other nations and bringing their own food. This is usually because you never know what you will get say, in Russia.

Traveling to Sweden this January I was expecting to find most of my meals covered in mystery sauce, and fish. The plane ride from Frankfurt to Oslo made me expect the worst. We were served some form of turkey sandwich, which tasted like a mix of sawdust, sugar, processed cheese and about 50 other flavours I had never experienced before. The list on ingredients (in Swedish) didn't help cool matters down any either, as it was about 3 paragraphs long in size 6 font.

After about two meals at the hotel restaurant where we are eating at, I can safely say that my expectation could not have been more wrong. I mean sure there is some mystery sauce, and most meals there is some fish, but for the main part we are eating things like stir fry, taco's, lasagne and pork chops.

I guess that old cliché, don't judge a book by its cover, is right again. For me, well let's just say I have been pleasantly surprised!

Enjoy your skiing!!!
