This past weekend I traveled to Bonnyville to attend the Alberta Winter Games. The AWG is run like the Winter Olympics but is aimed towards younger athletes in Alberta and includes sports such as skating, ringette, fencing, biathlon and of course cross country skiing. It's a long drive to Bonnyville (usually 7-8 hours) but with numerous stops to fix our buses it took us much longer.
Canmore Nordic's presence was felt as it won nearly half of the possible cross country-skiing medals and definitely contributed to our zone's (2) results. Although this is one of the season's most anticipated events, like most things it comes with its pros and cons.
