    Hello AB Cup Racers!

The weather is warming up and it should be a fantastic day of racing on Saturday.  One forecast is for light snow through the day with an overnight low of -15 C, but getting to a high of -6 C.

Here is the planned schedule for Saturday’s Interval Start Race:

Check Zone4 for your personal start time. Link here: https://zone4.ca/event/2021/ABCup1/

For TT and LC Athletes- Check in at the Teamroom 1 hour and 15 minutes before your start time to: Drop off your Skate and Classic Race Skis, Pick up your bib, and get any latest feedback about the day.

LCs- Warm up On your own as you have practiced.

TTs- We will have a group warm up- Boys starting warm up at 12:15, girls starting warm up at 12:40

It will be 30 second interval starts for the U18 and older.  The U16 and younger will have 15 second starts.  Note that time will go quite fast.  As soon as the racer in front of you goes, you need to be ready to get to the start wand.

Being an interval start race, the tracking rule is in effect. If you are coming up on another racer call track early enough so they can move.  If you are tracked, give that athlete space to pass, but then try to hang on and get a ride!

A reminder from the Organizing Committee, We are still in COVID times so we need to limit our time at the venue.  Please Arrive- Warm Up- Race- Cool Down- Depart.  Don’t linger and hang out at the venue.

Awards are planned for 13:05 for those who raced in the early morning, and at 16:15 for those that race in the afternoon.  Only stay for awards (or come back) if you are receiving an award.

We have all been training a long time for these first XC Races here in Alberta.  Let’s all get out there and leave everything we’ve got on the course.  In the words of Steve Prefontaine, “Don’t let fatigue make a coward out of you.” Racing is hard, but everyone else is hurting out there too, and that challenge is what makes it so great!
