Matt DeCarufelKeymasterHello!
Your first day of Westerns has arrived! We have a great attendance of racers out for this event and will be a fun day of exciting, competitive racing.
Weather: Forecasts haven’t been super accurate this year, but the best guess is -2 over night +4 during the day, mostly cloudy.
Course:
3x3km
This is a great classic course with lots of beautiful striding. Find your balance of power and tempo to make those skis glide. Transitions were key today and those who really pushed into the downhills gained a lot of time.15 sec intervals, so it will be a little busy out on course. If you are coming up on a slower skier, track early and loud so they have time to react. If they are struggling, it might be faster to go around. Use your judgement. If you are tracked, that might be an amazing ride for you. Give it a try to stick with someone and after 20 seconds you will sometimes settle into that faster pace and can have an amazing race.
Coming into the Lap/Finish: When you lap, that is a turning zone and you can push off your ski to change direction. When you are going into the finish, keep your skis parallel.
There will be a king and queen of the mountain similar to Nationals. It is a cumulative award for the 2 distance races. So all times through that segment added together from Friday and Sunday.

Awards will be about 45 min after the category is complete by the west end of the day lodge.
U18 Category Awards
U16 Year of Birth Awards
U14 Year of Birth AwardsParking will be a little tight, so please car pool if you can. Saturday and Sunday will be very busy, so it will be essential to Car pool those days (780 Racers all here at CNC at the same time!)
Start list is up on zone4. Recommended to arrive at the wax room 1:15 before your start to collect your bib and check in with your coach. We will pass on updates for a warm up wax, but best guess based on today will be Rode Viola Extra.
We coaches saw an awesome pogression in racing this season so far. Lets keep that momentum going and lay down your best effort out there tomorrow. As Steve Prefontaine, one of the best middle distance runners in the world in the 1970s said, “To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.”
