January Club Athlete of the Month! – Georgia Hutchison and Katrine Gillett

Georgia Hutchison

How old were you when you starting skiing?
I was five years old when I first skied with Jack Rabbits in Canmore.

Where is your favourite place to ski?
My favourite place to ski is on home turf at the Canmore Nordic Centre with my favourite trails being Silver Tip and Coyote.

Fondest ski memory?
I have many fond ski memories. Each time I head out on skis I make wonderful memories and love them all! I do remember a couple crazy nights such as when the carbon monoxide alarm went off at midnight at the Ribbon Creek camp. We all had to hop out of bed and wait outside in our pj’s until we got the all clear. And this year the fire alarm had us all in the parking lot in Red Deer with Tait sharing a funny story about how the alarm had interfered with a fashion show competition he was watching and not with his sleep!

What do you love about xc skiing?
I love the sport of cross country skiing because it is super winter fun, I am always able to learn new things and I enjoy skiing with my friends. I love cross country skiing mainly because it makes me very happy!

What do you love about being part of Canmore Nordic SC?
I love the Canmore Nordic Ski Club because everyone is friendly and all the coaches are amazing! They support me with  goal setting, they help me to improve my technique and they  encourage me to strive for my best! I love the way we all laugh, ski and learn together!

How old were you when you starting skiing?
I’ve been skiing since I was old enough to walk, but I didn’t start biathlon till I was 9.

Where is your favourite place to ski/biathlon?
My favorite place to ski is definitely Nipika. It’s a beautiful area and the trails are always in good shape.

Fondest ski/biathlon memory?
My fondest ski memory is from my first Nationals competition in Whistler in 2013. It was such a fun experience to ski on the same trails as all the Olympic athletes, as well as compete against a bigger field than what you get at provincial races.

What do you love about xc skiing/biathlon?
I love how biathlon has both a physical and a mental aspect to it. Every race is another opportunity to challenge yourself, and improve your shooting in a more stressful environment.

What do you love about being part of Canmore Nordic SC?
I love being a part of Canmore Nordic because we’ve created such an amazing community. Training is easier when you have fun team mates to hang out with, and coaches who are willing to commit so much of their time to helping you be the best that you can be.
