For kids born 2015-2021. This nationally supported program promotes the fundamental development of ski skills in a fun-filled environment. The objective is for children to learn basic cross-country ski skills – both classic (first) and skating, and to foster a lifelong interest in the sport, thereby enhancing their quality of life and health. Many special event nights are included throughout the program. Parents can choose from a number of volunteer opportunities to help the program run smoothly.
The program runs on Tuesday evenings from December ’26 to March ’27. We may run an additional mini Jackrabbits night on Thursday evenings depending on coach availability; but the main evening will still be Tuesday.
BUNNIES: For kids born in 2022, there’s an option to come out and ski with a parent together with other kids their age. It’s not an official coached program, but we arrange a meeting point and access to games and equipment.
BIATHLON ADD-ON: For older Jackrabbits, it is possible to add a Biathlon Polar Bears registration to your Jackrabbit program. This is for kids born in 2016 and 2017.
DATES:
BLOCK 1: Jan 2027
BLOCK 2: Feb 2027 (no session Family Week)
TIMES: Wednesdays 4:45pm to 6:00pm at the Canmore Nordic Centre
COST: $110 per block (4 sessions)
LIMITED SPACE: 12 athletes per block.
We are using Eco Aim rifles, these are optical rifles with great accuracy. Read more at https://www.ecoaims.com. This is a great way for kids to try out biathlon.
HARES PROGRAM: Want to learn how to cross-country ski too? This program is aimed at Jackrabbit parents who are new to the sport, or who may have done just a little skiing. This course will teach you the fundamentals of skiing and give you the skills to enjoy yourself on the easier trails, so you can get out for a ski with your Jackrabbit! Same dates and times as Jackrabbits sessions, with the option to join the first session (for the first five weeks of the Jackrabbits program, for absolute beginners), or the second session (for the latter five weeks of the Jackrabbits program, for those with a bit more experience).
INTERESTED IN THE THURSDAY PROGRAM? We’re considering running a small-scale Jackrabbits night on Thursday evening. If you register for Tuesday night but would like to attend the Thursday evening session instead, please make a note in the comments of your registration. Note the Thursday sessions will be from 5.15 – 6.45pm, the same time as Track Attack, and will not include access to the Daylodge. If you’re interested only in Thursday, and not in Tuesday at all OR if you may be available to help with coaching on Thursday night, please fill out the form here.
NEED GEAR? Trail Sports is offering rental package deals for participants in Jackrabbits. These MUST be organized by the end of November. The Canmore Nordic Ski Swap is on the 1st November, 2026, but doesn’t always have a big availability of Jackrabbits sized skis.
NEED FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE? Jumpstart and Kidsport are both programs that can provide financial assistance to families who are taking part in Jackrabbits. Check out the links below to apply:

We are also able to provide reduced Jackrabbits fees again to Tier 1 Affordable Service Card holders, thanks to a generous grant from the True Sport Youth Fund and the Wim & Nancy Pauw Foundation. If this applies to you, email info@canmorenordic.com for more details and to get your discount code.
