    Hi athletes and parents

In our sport, we often use the terms zone 1, zone 3, or zone 4 and so its good to get an idea of what these mean.

b]Zone 1[/b] – 50-60% of maximum heart rate (max HR for 12-13 year olds is usually around 205-210 beats per minute). So for the average 12-13 year old zone 1 is in the range of 102 and 126 bpm.

    Zone 3 – 70-80% of max HR – 142 – 168 beats per minute

    Zone 4 – (race pace) – 80-90% of max HR – 168-189 bpm

During our practices, we will stop occasionally to take our pulse to get an idea of which heart rate we are in so that we are training the intended energy system.

I hope this helps – any questions please let me know

    cheers
    Roy
